Thirty-four.

So it’s my birthday again. Thirty-four. It doesn’t sound that old, but then it can all be put into perspective by a mid-twenty year old. I got to hang out over a couple of beers the other night with my good friend Tim from my Creative Live experience earlier this year. Nothing like seeing someone coming into their prime to make you feel O-L-D. I kid Tim, of course. We had a great chat about where we both are, where we’ve been, and what’s on the horizon for the coming year. It was great to catch up and even more fun to dream with that guy. He’s inspired me to do a few upcoming blog posts about bucket lists, dreaming big, and direction. Coming soon.

For now, I’m looking back. It’s been a hell of a year and to be honest, I’m really sad to see it go. I’ll touch on this in another post, but for some reason I always get nostalgic on my birthday. I always long for the years gone by and everything great that’s been a part of them. I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten to live the life that I’ve lived so far. That’s a good feeling.
So this weekend I’m going to spend some time reflecting on what I’ve accomplished this year, and where I want to go in the coming year (Yes, I’m trying to make plans when I’m about to have a baby – I’m afraid I’m in for a rude awakening!). I like to use the downtime at the end of the year to reflect, ponder and figure out where the next year might take me. I don’t find much use of focusing on what didn’t get accomplished. I tend to look at the things that I DID do and what I want to accomplish / do / see in the year to come. Not much good comes from dwelling on the things that you just didn’t get to. Celebrate the victories in 2011! Hopefully everyone else can take some time this weekend to reflect on the year gone by and see all the good things that happened.
It’ll be a quiet birthday celebration this year, but I’ll enjoy some good friends, good food, and a glass of wine to toast another year gone by. Maybe a couple of glasses. It is my birthday and all…
Happy Friday!
