A couple of thoughts about Friday and remembering my roots

I found myself in a really good mood on Friday. It was simply because I was going to share my work at Liz and Mike’s wedding with “the world” (I use that term loosely since it’s not like I have a fan base or something.:)). What struck me about it is that for too long I have been in a position where there isn’t a lot of me to put out there creatively speaking. Largely, there weren’t really any fruits of my creative labor to own or share. Coming from an art background and going to school for that, I fondly remember – that was what we DID. We made art and put it out there for people to see. It wasn’t because we felt we were self important and had to get recognition for it. It’s just making and sharing that makes the world go round. If we don’t give to people what we’re passionate about, what good does it do us?

As scary as this is launching off and doing something on my own for the world to see, it’s also liberating. I have to own what I do, because it’s no one else’s but mine, but  I also get to put it out there. It’s not a new concept for me, it’s just getting back to basics – sharing whatever piece of me that I feel is significant with the world. It sounds a little self-important when I put it that way, but it’s also cathartic and good for the soul. That’s why I went to art school in the first place. To put myself into my work wholly for people to see. It feels good to get back to my roots.

I also have to say something else about Friday’s post. I’m new to posting weddings and obviously still learning. In my haste to get the post out for Friday, I neglected to put a link to the fabulous Candice Benjamin on my blog. She came out and helped me out for the wedding and I owe her a great deal for her time and energy she put into it. She really helped me make Liz and Mike’s wedding a photographic success and I couldn’t have done it without her. So, to give credit where credit is due, here’s a link to Candice too. I just want to make sure I give her a proper shout out. Thanks, C – you’re a class act.

This is just a random shot from the weekend, because posts are just more fun this way.

Have a great Monday!
